Sailing and diving on board of the nostalgic SV Sea Shell
The two mast topsail schooner offers an excellent possibility for
sailing lovers to discover the magic nature of the Seychelles.
Come on board and enjoy traditional sailing with the SV Sea Shell.
History
In the year 1920 the SV Sea Shell was built according to
the plans of the ship builders Hoogendoorn & van Meer in Haarlem, Holland.
After the Second World War it was restructured and worked as a fishing trawler
on the North Sea. In 1985 it was restructured again and used as a sailing
training vessel under the new name "Elisabeth Louw". Then in 1996 it was
renovated and all its technology was modernized. It was renamed to its current
title the SV Sea Shell and now brings visitors on tours
through the Seychelles islands. Its architecture and the plenty of wood lend
it a very nostalgic appearance.
Crew
The SV Sea Shell sails under the command of its owner,
the Israeli captain Amit Wasserberg. He has been captain of boats for the past
seven years in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the
Pacific. The seven head crew is international and all speak English and most
speak French.
Facilities
The SV Sea Shell has a salon and bar of ca. 28 m².
In the salon are a stereo/CD system, Video/TV, videos and literature about
the nature in the Seychelles (mostly in English) and of course board games.
There are eight guest cabins and three cabins for the crew. Five of the guest
cabins, each 9 m², offer a double bed and a high bed. Two cabins have three
high beds and the last cabin has two high beds. All cabins have air
conditioning, sink, shelves, mirror, and a skylight that can be opened. There
are three bathrooms with shower and toilet available for the guests, and a
shower on the aft deck. The deck of the boat is around 60 m² and is partly
covered with mattresses as a sunning terrace.
Board Kitchen and Restaurant
The good ghost of the kitchen is Seychellois who cooks Creole and a local
version of international food. All meals are served as a buffet. Drinks are
served at the tables. On board is a wood coal grill for barbecues on board and
on land.
Sailing and Diving
Whenever the wind, weather and the course allow it, the SV Sea Shell
uses its sails. The help of the guests is welcome, but is not a must.
It is possible to make up to two or three dives per day. At the moment there is
a PADI diving instructor who speaks both English and French. Captain Wasserberg
is also a licensed diving instructor. The SV Sea Shell
is fully equipped for all diving needs. Two accompanied
dives cost EUR 35,- per day per person. The use of
bottles and belts is included in the price.
