Seychelles Islands
In the inner islands of the Seychelles lies some of the most spectacular diving
areas one can find. The underwater world here is filled with reefs and massive
granite boulders which are typical for this area. With the famous beaches and
their fine white sand this is the perfect place for a water-sporting holiday.
In the many hiding places among the reefs and boulders one can find a variety
of large marine life such as Manta rays, various species of Shark, Barracudas,
Tuna and Dolphins. Many types of Tortoise also live in the Seychelles.
7 Day Sailing Cruise on the Catamaran Walkabout
Day One
Upon arrival at Baie St. Anne, Praslin, you will be welcomed by the skipper with
an exotic cocktail to discuss the itinerary. A light lunch will be served
before setting sail to Curieuse. As part of the marine park the island is
strictly protected and only a few families live there. Like Praslin, Curieuse
is home to the Coco de Mer palms. In the past the island has been used as a
breeding home to giant tortoises brought over from Aldabra.
In the 19th century Curieuse was a leper colony. The ruins of the houses and the
restored "Doctor House" can be visited. Curieuse offers nature trails
across the island, and beautiful deserted beaches. Enjoy your first dive or
snorkel and see the great variety of tropical fish and corals.
Day Two
The privately owned Les Souers islands are a pleasure two-hour sailing distance,
ideal for fishing on the way. Upon arrival and after lunch you can enjoy
snorkeling or beach combing on white powder beaches surrounded by large granite
rocks on the main island Grande Soeur.
Day Three
In the morning you can dive or snorkel at Cocos Island.
After lunch we sail to La Digue, the third-largest granite island of the
Seychelles. The pace of life is slow, about the same speed as its traditional
way of transport - the ox-cart. Very few cars are allowed on the island and
bicycles are popular. They can be hired from various rentals at Anse Reunion
or La Passe harbour on arrival. A restored traditional planters
house can be visited at L'Union. It used to be the center of a vanilla
plantation of which the factory can still be seen. Further in land,
Chateau Saint Cloud is another impressive restored plantation house. La Digue
has the most amazing white sand beaches surrounded by palm trees and giant
granite rocks. Diving and snorkeling in the calm and sheltered warm
waters is a must.
Day Four
Today we take of for a pleasant morning sail to Praslin, the second
largest granite island of the Seychelles. The highest point is 330 meters.
Here you can also find several granite formations along the secluded beaches and coral
reefs in the crystal clear waters - as typical for the Seychelles.
We recommend that you set aside 1-2 hours to visit the National Park "Vallée de
Mai", the home of the worlds rarest birds and largest palm trees. After lunch
we sail to Cousin Island. Enjoy an island tour with a local Seychellois who will
lead you to the giant land tortoises.
Day Five
Today you can again discover Cousin Island, a nature reserve since 1968. There
you can see various birds, reptiles and tortoises. Around the island are many great
diving and snorkeling locations, shadowed by granite rocks. Enjoy a day of
diving, snorkeling and beach combing.
Day Six
In the morning we sail to Bird Island with its large population of birds.
The island is the home of Esmeralda - the largest and oldest (approximately
200 years) tortoise in the world. Deep sea fishing and fly fishing is very
popular in this area. For your last night we sail back to Praslin. Enjoy
a beach barbecue at Baie St. Anne.
Day Seven
Have a last breakfast on the deck before flying home or returning to your
hotel.
